About

Show me the money!

It was Andy Warhol who once said everybody would have 15 minutes of fame. Well I think mine's been and gone and it was kind of anonymous! While this might not be the best piece of work I've ever done I think I can safely say it's my most 'seen' piece of work to date. And as such it's got to go in the portfolio.

So in June 2009 Gareth Barry left Aston Villa to join Manchester City, many believing his move to be money motivated. When the fixture arrived that meant his first visit to Villa Park since the switch my mate, who runs an extrememly popular Aston Villa blog asked me to do a pretend bank note with Barrys picture on it. Now if a jobs worth doing it's worth doing properly in my opinion, so I went to work and produced a rather convincing fake £50 note. The 'Bank of Barry' note was posted on the blog and fans going down to the match were encouraged to print some off to wave at him - corny maybe, but they certainly made a statement!

I was woken up the following morning by my radio alarm clock only to hear them talking about the £50 notes on national radio! I've honestly never moved so quickly in the morning. Sure enough they were everywhere, BBC, ITV, Sky Sports News, back pages of the papers, websites - absolutely everywhere. We were very chuffed with ourselves and although there was no mention of The Villa Blog or mymule, we'd made headline news for a day. Good times :)
